Montana 2-1-1

Montana 211 – Connecting Our Communities

What is 211?

211 is a free, confidential service that connects people with the help they need—24 hours a day, 7 days a week. By simply dialing 2-1-1, anyone can be connected with resources for housing, food, utility assistance, health care, employment services, crisis intervention, and more. It is a lifeline for individuals and families navigating life’s challenges.

The History of 211

The 211 system was first launched in 1997 in Atlanta as a simple way for people to connect with essential services. Recognizing its impact, the Federal Communications Commission designated 211 nationwide in 2000. Since then, states across the country—including Montana—have adopted 211 as a central hub for community support, making it easier for people to get help without needing to know exactly where to turn.
